Twelve teams in boys and girls categories emerged for the finals from the six conferences. They include Wahabi Folawiyo Secondary School, Lagos, Government Secondary School, Owerri, Grays International School, Kaduna, University of Ilorin Secondary School, Ilorin, Villanova Secondary School, Adamawa and Okrika Grammar School, Rivers in boys category.

Nana College, Warri, Yejide Grammar School, Ibadan, Government Girls College, Bauchi, Ikenegu Girls School, Owerri, Queens of Rosary School, Gboko and Army Day Secondary School, Sokoto emerged for the girls cadre.

The championship which began in 1999 as follow up to the annual Milo Future Champions Basketball Clinic is aimed at integrating the secondary school students into the mainstream of Basketball development in Nigeria.
